Oh Tannenbaum

Most of the year, I proudly claim Halloween as my favorite holiday, always putting Christmas at number two. But then decorations go up, and I remember how entranced I am by the light of a Christmas tree.

I have always been terrified of the dark; as a kid, I turned every light on in the house if I had to walk around at night. I think that's why I first fell in love with our Christmas tree. Not only was it a giant night light, but it also brought something extraordinary into my home. It seemed the kind of setting where a fairytale could take place: a tree inside a home, little lights inside it, sparkling red and green bulbs. I would sleep on the couch next to the tree whenever I could just to look at it a little longer. It felt magical.

Living away from home, I have missed seeing that tree all December. My mom and my sister must have known how important it was to me, because this year they sent me a Christmas package with a tiny tree, ornaments, and tree skirt (and a couple other Christmas goodies).

So it's a little smaller than the tree I had at my parents house. It's still just as marvelous. Every night since I got it, I have spent a good 20 minutes each night sitting by it, just as mesmerized as I am every year.

It had been almost four years since I had celebrated Thanksgiving.

I never understood the point of Thanksgiving. It seemed like a holiday that mostly celebrated food. So, each year, I took the week to fly out to Disney World and work on the Jungle Cruise (my sweet, sweet Jungle Cruise). It was one of my favorite traditions. But, with the Jungle Cruise chapter of my life over, I found myself without an excuse to skip Thanksgiving.

But I get terribly homesick, so I was thrilled to go home. Even if I had to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Home was perfect. Too much eating, too much sleeping. But I played video games, went hiking, went to dinner, went to a movie, and played games. I can't tell you how little I get to do those things when I'm away from my family.

Friday, Brookie, her puppy, and I decorated the house for Christmas (I made them both pose for pictures)

Dad playing with both our puppies. Dallas is less eager to be photographed, but don't worry, my old girl is still around :)

Saturday, Brooke, Dad, and I went on a hike to his infamous Rock Pile. My legs were SO sore from lifting weights that morning, and the mountains were a sad shade of brown, but it still was so lovely! I love any hike with these people.

poluuuution and beautiful mountains :)

Sunday was Hirschi night, as usual. My cousins are the best friends I could ask for... even if most of them are under the age of 15.
Teenagers, amiright?

I was trying to take cute pictures of all the kids, and this little guy jumped in front of the camera every time! Finally had to wrestle him to keep still. This is the best pic I got of him.

Only three weeks until I go back for Christmas! I cannot wait.

I'm determined to have an awesome Christmas break. My dad is going to take me snowboarding, but I need as much to do as possible. If you have any desire to go on awesome Christmas adventures, let's start planning!

October Picture Overload

October is my FAVORITE month of the year! So much is always going on, and I never have enough time to sit down and document it all. Yet again, I leave you with another picture overload.

For work, we had a beautiful event in Hollywood for all our Glendale/Burbank cast members celebrating service milestones. I was thrilled that it was cocktail attire, because I've been itching to wear this over the top, sparkly, green dress ever since last year. The party was in the old Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, and I imagine that I will never feel as fancy again in my life.

For the past three years, I have made sure to go the Mickey's Halloween party in Disneyland. First time with Jo, last year with my cousins, then this year with some interns. I had all sorts of wonderful Halloween costume ideas, but time got away from me, so I taped some black paper on an orange sweatshirt.
(I hate meeting characters... and apparently, they hate meeting me)

Have I mentioned my roommate got cats? because she did. Two of them: Wesley and Buttercup. Buttercup really likes to watch TV... and scratch things.

My friend Meg and I went up to Los Angeles for a day. As much as I love living in Orange County, LA has a better nightlife and hiking scene.

First, we went to Malibu to do the same hike I've posted pictures of like... 10 times

Afterwards, we went to see the 20th Anniversary Special of Nightmare Before Christmas. It is one of my absolute FAVORITE movies. I'm obsessed. I watch it in October like other people watch Christmas movies in December. Seeing it in the El Capitan Theater was spectacular. They had Jackolaterns and Christmas lights that lit up with the movie, then in the end IT SNOWED! It snowed in the theater. I seriously thought I was going to cry.

On Halloween, Meg and I drove up to West Hollywood for the Halloween Carnival. You can google it if you're curious what we were putting ourselves into. Lots and lots of incredible costume, and handsome men who aren't interested in women. We left fairly early, before anyone was belligerent. Our taxi dropped us off right in front of the "Before I die..." wall. It's a project I'd seen on Pinterest 100 times before, and I was so excited to finally contribute! I added "Cruise on all the jungle rivers in the world"

If you can't tell, meg and I dressed up like Danny and Sandy from Grease. She had leather pants, and I had a leather jacket, so no money was spent :) We also ran into some beautiful Conan friends

I got a little pinterest crazy, and started making all the Halloween treats I could find. I then proceeded to eat them all. I gained 30 pounds, but I can't say no to sugar

Jenny's friend Liz made Tacos for me on my birthday. She also got us all crowns. It was so fun, and SO thoughtful

My dear friend Emma came down for a night, and it was the best. We when to Gyu Kaku, where you cook your own food. Sounds silly, but it was awesome.

And, of course, the annual pumpkin patch visit with the Metcalfs

And last, but certainly not least, BROOKE GOT A PUPPY!!!
I was so grateful that Brooke decided to get her the weekend I came home. Her name is Red, she is an Australian Shepherd, and we love her. Like crazy people.

Two Month Catch Up

I'll skip the apology for rarely updating the blog, and just go right into the updates :)

My dad came out here for a weekend and it was wonderful! My dad and I like to vacation the same way. We like to explore, be busy, and try new things. I finally had a buddy to go to the county fair with, to explore Laguna, play in Disneyland, and go paddle boarding.

I am terrified of water. I almost fell off once. Almost. I don't remember exactly what happened, but I remember screaming and feeling like I was going to cry, gaining my balance, and then laughing because I probably looked like the biggest crazy person

I also had the very cool opportunity to get a tour of both Walt Disney Studios and the Animation Studios. SO COOL! I wish I could have taken pictures inside. We went through the offices where they were working on Frozen, and it looked so amazing!

My cousins came another weekend in August. I was feeling super worn out from all the Disney trips, but I went to see them and we had SUCH a fun day! Their little girl was so stubborn and adorable. When we told her that space mountain was probably a little too scary, and she shouldn't ride, she still wanted to go. This hilarious picture is the outcome

Took a day trip out to Big Bear to see an air show and to go kayaking with my wonderful friend Emma. It was a FANTASTIC day

The interns got together and took a tour of Walt Disney's Apartment in Disneyland. It was much smaller and not as fancy as I thought it'd be... but it was a lot of fun nonetheless

For work, we had the Disneyland Service Celebration. It's basically a big party in the park to celebrate all the cast members as they reach milestone years of service with the company

Finally took a trip to Balboa Island, and ate a delicious frozen banana

The first weekend in October was super special to me. I got to spend time with my family in St George. My uncle was running the St George Marathon, and originally I was just thinking I would drive out there just to see them, then it turned into a big thing, and my parents offered to fly me out on Friday, and then fly home Sunday. I was feeling incredibly homesick, so it was a PERFECT weekend with my favorite people in the world. Most of the time, I feel like I have to choose between chasing my dreams out here in California, or being with the people I love most back in Utah. Lots of tears were shed when I had to leave (mostly just from me and my mom)

It's Halloween time in Disneyland (YAAAY) and that means a special Cast Halloween Party called Little Monsters. I didn't end up taking any pictures at the event itself, but everyone who worked it wore these mickey pumpkin lanyards, and I thought they were super adorable

My roommate is awesome, and put up Halloween decorations in our apartment. AH! They look perfect. Now if only we had friends to invite over for some halloween-ness
Please notice the reflection of cats all around me in the TV. The roomie has two cats. Have I mentioned that? It's a love hate thing
And Finally, if I haven't told you already, My best friend Jo and I are running the Tinkerbell Half Marathon in Disneyland this January! With my new job, I have a great schedule that allows me to go running everyday, and I've been getting really into it. Jo just a got an AMAZING new job at Conan, but it does mean that she doesn't get to train very often with me. This Saturday was the first time that we finally got to go running together. 4 miles in, and it was super hot, and we were super thirsty, Thank goodness for the nice girl at Rubys who gave us some water as we took a breather in Barnes and Noble. Hahaha, is that what normal runners do? Stop at a Barnes and Noble halfway through their run?

Whoa, this ended up being really long! I can't believe how much better I"m doing at taking pictures.

I am going to try to write here more because it makes me happy to write. Its all about prioritizing. Writing probably needs to be a little more important that watching all of Season 2 of New Girl in 2 days... yikes, I have a netflix problem
